A short interview with kyo from GRANDJUMP-shueisha/innocent_kyo
①Do you originally read manga?
I read manga often in the past. I was from the generation of Kinnikuman, Fist of the North Star or Dragon Ball, so I used to read various titles. I also liked B・B.
②Why did you read “Innocent”?
Recently I didn’t have any chances to read new manga, but I was really drawn to the art on the cover, so without thinking I bought the book and read it. The art, worldview, justice or evilness. It has destroyed the concept of manga I had until then.
③ Which character do you like in “Innocent”?
Marie=Joseph Sanson. I was really drawn to this character’s free way of living, standing by her opinion no matter what.
④Do you feel there are any similarities between “Innocent” and your performance?
I’m expressing the purity and beauty hidden in destruction or distortion, but perhaps it’s the way of expression or destructing the fixed concepts, the freedom of expression till the point of cruelty and peculiar beauty.
⑤What was the process of preparing the collaboration goods this time?
First, I felt the incredible intention in Marie’s eyes, so we used this picture. Thinking of that unwavering intention we added my eyes to the artwork, I wanted a design that would allow people to feel that intention from the eyes.
⑥Do you have some predictions on how the story will unfold as “Innocent Rouge” plunge into the French Revolution?
I’m just one of the readers, so I don’t have any predictions, none, I’m in a completely passive position. But if I could wish for one thing only, I think in various situations and positions freedom is not easy [to have], but if the struggle to have a free expression and not making compromises could continue, then I think I read Shin’chi Sakamoto’s work no matter what developments occur in the story, going over my imagination. Only that.
